(scroll down for Eng.)
Predavanje na temu: OD KUSTOSA DO UMETNIKA I NAZAD
Predavačica: Andrea Palašti
Datum: subota, 21. septembar 2024.
Educational Program of the Youth Biennial
Lecture Topic: FROM CURATOR TO ARTIST AND BACK
Lecturer: Andrea Palašti
Date: Saturday, September 21, 2024
Time: 2 p.m.
Format: Online (Link Below)
We are excited to announce the commencement of a new cycle in our Educational program for emerging talents in the field of culture and art, featuring a lecture by Andrea Palašti, Associate Professor at the Academy of Arts in Novi Sad. This lecture is part of the Youth Biennial.
Traditionally, a diverse range of participants—curators, photographers, writers, PR professionals, and exhibition staff—has shaped the art system and market. However, what if artists were to assume all these roles themselves?
This lecture will explore the expanded role of the artist within cultural production, particularly in relation to curatorial work. Andrea Palašti will emphasize the process of creating exhibitions as a dialogue-oriented space that fosters inquiry and promotes new ideas. She will illustrate how this process can be non-hierarchical, allowing for a more interconnected web of roles among participants in the exhibition-making process, ultimately creating a holistic environment where each role is interdependent.
The focus will be on examples of "alternative" exhibition practices that empower artists to take complete control of their creations while fostering direct communication with the audience. The lecture will also present a variety of case studies, including the renowned work "Edinburgh Declaration" by artist Raša Todosijević from 1975, which raises the question: "Who profits from art, and who makes an honest living?" (2). In addition, Andrea Palašti will showcase various current experimental curatorial and artistic projects, along with exhibition situations that she has developed with her students at the Academy of Arts in Novi Sad since 2016.
