Educational Program of the Youth Biennial
Lecture Topic: FEMINIST VANGUARD: LOCAL CONTEXT AND CONTEMPORARY PERSPECTIVES
Lecturer: Sanja Kojić Mladenov
Date: Saturday, November 30, 2024
Time: 2 p.m.
Format: Online (link below)
Within the broader discussion of gender and art relations in both Serbian and international contexts, questions arise about historical perspectives and avant-garde movements crucial for women's empowerment in contemporary art. Women artists, including Katalin Ladik, Bogdanka Poznanović, and Judita Šalgo, made significant contributions to the development of avant-garde art and interdisciplinary approaches in our region, connecting the local art scene with Yugoslav protagonists, fostering public engagement, and introducing innovations in Novi Sad's institutional and higher education systems.
The lecture will highlight how engaged artistic movements in our local environment developed parallel to innovative and radical art practices on the international scene, emphasizing women artists' critical practices of the 1970s and their connections to contemporary art. The analysis will examine questions of communication and action, body and sexuality, nature and religion, as well as war, violence, and migration. The lecture aims to affirm women's contributions to the development of historical art practices while emphasizing the importance of emancipating museum institutions and the wider public.
