I can say that my work is imbued with relations and functions in the relation man - object - crowd - packing. Their content refers to different types of social engagement, and the work space itself is often covered by the box dimension.

In her work, Sara Masnikosa uses spatial objects that show different types of social engagement in the content of the topic. These spaces, mapped through the dimension of the box, represent the stage of a certain human function. Born on July 31, 1995 in Subotica. She graduated from the Gymnasium in Paraćin in 2014 and enrolled in the Academy of Arts in Novi Sad, majoring in painting. He will finish his undergraduate studies in 2020 in the class of Professor Goran Despotovski, with an average grade of 9.96. He is currently a master's student of academic studies in painting, also at the Academy of Arts in Novi Sad. He has been exhibiting regularly since 2015. So far, she has exhibited in seven solo exhibitions and numerous collective ones. She is also a participant in numerous projects, workshops and art colonies. She is the winner of the Dositej Scholarship 2019/20, the annual award of the Department of Fine Arts of the Academy of Arts in Novi Sad for the most successful artistic work in the art discipline PAINTING (2020) and the Little Prince Foundation Award for top results in art (2021).

Deep inside my comfort zone

This work focuses on an important and unavoidable feeling - being overwhelmed by reality. It is not about getting out of the comfort zone, but about the moment that brings us back to it. Like a moment of falling asleep, a feeling of carelessness with a tone of a lyrical character. We all have it and we all want it; in exhausted rationality, it is the pinnacle of our actualisation. Deep in that feeling, deep in one's own comfort zone, there are the figures in their small boxes. They are cramped in an extremely small yet, for them, safe space. The composition features a large aquarium filled with water. The aquarium has small glass boxes that sway slightly, using engine energy. Everything is transparent, we have an insight into their collective dormancy. All these individuals are peacefully surrendered and there is no change for them. Their box is a safe zone, with enough air. They are tranquil witnesses of this condition and the only ones for whom it will never change. Since this is the absence of rationality, each individual will strive to get out of this situation and seek a way to return to their rationality.

Interview

What is the language in common for the young people today?

Language in common is established through the content, thinking and way of communication shared by a group or community. Without him, of course, we can only think of conflict. If we look at the entire history of the world, we can conclude that a common language is not something that is so easy to achieve.

Language in common as an idea that can only be black or white, runs through those segments of my work that build mass, united, waste and communication.

What does the process of making one of your pieces look like?

Provoked by some event or feeling, I begin to think about the processes that will present these experienced or perceived phenomena. Each process has an appropriate form in which it should be expressed, so that it functionally corresponds to the idea it wants to express.

Then follows the research of materials, components of work, depending on the form itself. The realization of each work corresponds to the initial idea, but it is also upgraded by my experiences in the process of its materialization.

Which challenges have you faced while making art as you know it?

Many of the materials and components I use are not classic materials used in artistic disciplines, so through each new work I come to the problem of how it is possible to present a process without making the whole work functional.

Do you consider yourself an artist, and what does that word mean to you?

Anyone who dedicates all his time and wants and thinks that art is his job, can be called an artist. I may never be among the covers of a famous monograph, but I can't say that I'm not an artist. Even though sometimes I will no longer engage in direct work, art has permanently shaped my way of thinking and deciding.

What is your escape from reality? Do you even have a need to escape from something?

Anyone who dedicates all his time and wants and thinks that art is his job, can be called an artist. I may never be among the covers of a famous monograph, but I can't say that I'm not an artist. Even though sometimes I will no longer engage in direct work, art has permanently shaped my way of thinking and deciding.

What does the word innovative mean to you?

At present, innovation is about making a difference from the existing ones. Every small step out of the ordinary turns us towards change, which does not necessarily correspond to the term innovation. But these steps are extremely important to us today.

Do you have a plan for the future? Where can your artistic practice take you?

I would like to exhibit in Europe and America or in some beautiful exotic places. It is unacceptable for me to think that I have spent my whole life in the same place. Of course, all this depends on the circumstances and the quality of my future work.

What made the biggest influence on you to become what you are today and do what you do now?

My education, life experience, ambition and confidence in my own work.

How would you describe Serbian (Balkan or European-depends on where you live and work) contemporary cultural scene?

Every day I am surprised again and again by the quality of our young artists, and most of all by the fighting spirit and ambition. It is also good that there is a variety of content. Our artists are real fighters considering the conditions in which they create, but they overcome all that with the general atmosphere that their mutual relations build.

In which way does your creative process shape you or changes you as a person, if it does at all?

By deciding to choose art as an invitation, I agreed to a complete transformation of my view of the world, but it is a positive thing that made me aware of my thoughts and my attitude towards reality.

The process of my work directs me to different areas that go beyond art alone. In that way, my expertise in work is expanded, which is enriched with different disciplines.
